A small village full of stories

Unique. Authentic. Homely. Magical. Relaxed. Welcoming. Versatile. These are just some of the words used to describe the village of Mathildedal.

This historic ironworks village in Salo, by the sea and Lake Matildanjärvi, on the edge of Teijo National Park, is all of that.

A small village full of stories. Stories of people and community. Stories of creativity and bold entrepreneurs. Stories of the spirit of the old ironworks community still present in artisan cafés, design boutiques, the marina, the lively village centre and the calm of the national park.

Mathildedal Life was born from our desire to share these stories with anyone who wants to understand why Mathildedal feels like more than just a destination.

We believe the village deserves its own magazine. And we had just enough of that local, slightly mad determination – along with the professional skill – to make it happen.

Mathildedal LIFE is published in print once a year and online throughout the year. The next print issue will be released in January 2027 and will be distributed, among other places, at Matka Travel Fair and Helsinki International Boat Show. The print run is 10,000 copies. You can view the digital edition here.

Mathildedal LIFE is published by Ruukki Creative in collaboration with the Mathildedal Entrepreneurs’ Association. See Visit Mathildedal for more information on services and events.

Ruukki Creative was founded by photographer Nina Kaverinen and journalist Hanna-Mari Järvinen. You can find us in the old carpentry workshop at Mathildedal Ironworks, Ruukinrannantie 6.

A warm welcome to the village!
