From Mathildedal to Airisto
A relaxed boating route from Hanko to Airisto
When Espoo-based Pasi Pyysiäinen set off by boat from Helsinki towards Airisto in the early 2000s, he was surprised when his boating companion turned northeast at Hanko.
“I wondered where he was heading.”
The route, known as Koillisreitti, is very familiar to Pyysiäinen. It runs from Hanko around the northeastern side of Kimitoön to Parainen and from there on to Airisto. Living part-time in Mathildedal, Pyysiäinen has become an active promoter of the route.
“We call it the more relaxed route. There are wonderful harbours along the way, including Mathildedal. There is always space in the harbours, the winds do not pick up too strongly, and it is easy to dock.”
A new harbour in Karuna will be added to the route this year.
